Atonement of Christ

Theme 3: Doctrine of Christ

QuestionAnswer
Atonement The Work Christ did in his life and death to earn mans salvation
Causes of Atonement Love & Justice of God
Love of God A cause of the atonement
Justice of God Required God to find a way that the penalty due to man could be paid so He could accept mankind into fellowship
Without Gods Love God would not have taken any steps to redeem mankind
Without Gods Justice the specific requirement that Christ should earn salvation by dying for man's sins would not have been met
The Atonement is important because God did not need to save anyone
Because for Gods love He decided to save human beings by His son dying, which was the only way
Atonement was a Necessary 'consequence' of God's decision to save mankind
