What are common assessment finding associated with DIC? | Petechiae, purpura, hematomas, oozing from IV sites, drains, gums, and wounds, GI and Genitourinary bleeding, hemoptysis, mental change, hypotension, tachycardia, pain |
What are two applicable nursing diagnoses for DIC? | Risk for injury, Ineffective tissue perfusion |
List some nursing interventions to protect the client with DIC from injury and bleeding. | Gentle oral care with mouth swabs and suctioning, fewest bp’s, needles sticks, and smallest needle possible, frequent turning, apply pressure to oozing site |
What drug is administered during the first phase of DIC in an effort to inhibit the exhaustion of clotting factors? | heparin (Coumadin does not work for DIC) |
