In order for plants to be successful on land, what are some of the adapations (4) that made the transition possible ? cuticle - waxy layer roots - absorb water and nutrients stems - transport water leaves - absorb sunlight
What sort of reproductive strategies have seed-plants developed? seed - size/shape fruit
What is meant by "alernation of generations"? sporophyte - spores gametophyte - gametes
Hormones are chemicals produced inside an organisms that make physiological change
Auxin do what ? promote apical growth regulates photosynthesis
Gibberelins do what? promote stem/bud growth promote flower/fruit development promote seed germination
Cytokinins do what? stimulate cell division in the meristems
Ethylene is and does what? gaseous hormones that ripens fruit
Abscisic acid does what? promotes seed dormancy, closes stomata
Tropisms are plant growth responses to external stimuli
What is the stimulus for? phototropism: light thigmotroism: touch hydrotropism: water gravitropism (geotropism): gravity
How is auxin related to phototropism? Auxin causes lengthening on one side of stem
What is the difference between positive and negative tropism? (+) plant grows toward stimulus (-) plant grows away from stimulus
How is nastic movement different from tropism? Nastic Movement is reversible Tropism is permemnant
