National Debt major problem after war ended, owed money to foreign nations and individuals

Hamilton's Economic Plan wanted to buy back all of old bonds and issue new ones to extend due dates

Neutrality Proclamation passed in 1793; declared that the US would not support either side (Britain nor France) in war
Jay's Treaty called for Britain to pay for damages of seized ships that were stolen; established trading rights
Washington's farewell address 1796; advised to steer clear of permanent alliances and to not get dragged into European affairs

Alien and Sedition acts: sedition Sedition- means to stir things up, said any citizen could be fined or jailed if they said anything bad about the government

Election of 1800: issues ended up in a tie because you didn't have to vote individually for president and vice president; house of reps voted to break tie between Jefferson and Burr; Hamilton tried to help Burr win because he disliked Jefferson; 35 ties but ended in Jefferson win

12th Amendment stated that you have to vote separately for president and vice president
