First Continental Congress 1774 Meet in Philadelphia to discuss what to do about Great Britain. They issued a “Declaration of Rights” to King George. And voted to stop all trade with Great Britain and agreed to meet again if Parliament did not listen.
Intolerable Acts 1773 They closed the port of Boston. They took away the right for “Self Government” for Massachusetts’s colonists. The colonists were ordered to quarter (house and feed) the British troops in their home.
Boston Tea Party 1773 An organized group of patriots protested against the taxes by sneaking aboard a ship dressed as Indians and throwing all the tea on board in the Boston Harbor.
Tea Act 1773 Great Britain lowered the price on tea, so that it cost less then buying it from the Dutch but kept the tax on it.
Townsend Act 1767 Parliament taxed glass, paint, tea, lead, paper and other imported goods. “Taxation without Representation.”
Daughters of Liberty 1765 Organized group of colonial women who were patriots. They supported the “Sons of Liberty” peacefully by making goods that were needed for the colonists.
Sons of Liberty 1765 An organized group of colonists who were patriots who were against “taxation without representation.”
Stamp Act 1765 A tax on paper goods such as cards, marriage license, and newspapers. This was an event that showed Taxation without Representation.
The Quartering Act 1763 The colonists were also expected to house British soldiers and feed them when they were sent to America to make sure the colonist paid their taxes.
Proclamation of 1763 It is a line formed along the Appalachian Mountains. King George III stated the colonist could not settle west of this line in order to keep peace with the Indians
Significance of French and Indian War 1755 - 1763 George Washington emerged as a military leader; Great Britain emerged as predominant colonial force in North America; Proclamation of 1763; Great Britain taxed the colonist to pay for the war.
Taxation without Representation Colonists could not make decisions for themselves; they were taxed by Great Britain without having and input through a representative
boycott An organized campaign in which people refuse to have any dealings with a particular group or country in order to force a change of policy
