Ileostomy | When the ileum is brought through via the abdominal wall. Indications: UC, Crohn's and FAP. |
Cecumostomy | The cecum is brought through via the abdominal wall. |
Colostomy | The colon is brought through via the abdominal wall. |
Loop stoma: | Bringing a loop of the colon through via the abdominal wall then opening the anterior of it for fecal diversion. |
Double barrel stoma: | When the bowel is divided, both the distial and proxmial ends are brought up to the abdominal wall as two seperate stomas. |
End Stoma: | The bowel is divided and the proximal end bowel is brought up the abdominal wall as a single stoma. The distal bowel is removed or left in the GI tract. |
Preop care | Inform the client of the procedures. Psychological preperation. |
Postop characteristics of a stoma | Color: pink to brick red, pale pink, dark red to purple. Edema: mild, moderate to severe. Bleeding: small amount, moderate to large amount. |
