Spirituality Gives life to, or animates, a person.
Congruence Dynamic state in which a system's patterns & rhythms are in harmony with each other.
Control Process of changing what interferes with the individual's attempt to return to the status quo (homeostasis) or to effect a change that is least disruptive.
Coherence Results in a sense of unity within & is gained through activities that nurture the mind & spirit.
Individuation Human striving to connect & become part of something out of oneself, through intergration of knowledge, adjustment of values, & alteration of behaviors.
Spiritual Well-Being Sense of harmonious interconnectedness between self, others/nature, & an ultimate that exists throughout & beyond time & space.
Atheist Do not believe in the existence of God or who believe that anyt ulitmate realtity is unknown.
Agnostic Existence of a God or higher power cannot be proven or disproved.
Faith Relationship with a divinity, higher power, authority, or spirit that incorporates a reasoning belief & a trusting action.
Transcendence Awareness of that which one cannot see or know in ordinary physical ways.
Hope Multidimensional concept that provides comfort while enduring life threats & personal challenges.
Spiritual Distress Disruption of an individual's "life principle", which fills the person's entire being & transcends or exceeds one's biological & psychosocial nature.
Holistic View enables the nurse to establish a helping role & a healing relationship.
Caring for a client's spiritual needs means: Accepting the client's beliefs & experiences.
An individual who does not believe in the existence of God is an: Atheist
Hope is concept related to spirituality that can be best described as: Providing comfort in the presence of life's threats & challenges.
Hinduism discourages the prolonging of life & believes illness is: Caused by past sins.
Client's rituals & practice: Provide structure & support for the client.
The ability to establish presence is part of the art of nursing. It is not simply being in the same room with a client but also: Involves offering a closeness with the client, physically, psychologically, & spiritually.

When consulting with the dietary department regarding meals for a client of the Hindul religion, what food should not be included on their plates? Meats.
If an Islamic client dies, the nurse should be aware of what religious practice? Only relatives & friends may touch the body.
If a nurse were to use a nursing diganosis to relate concerns about spiritual health, what would be used? Spiritual Distress.
Mr. Phillips was recently diganosed with a malignant tumor. The staff had observed him crying on several occasions, & now he cries as he reads from his Bible. Interventions to help Mr. Phillips cope with his illness would include: Supporting his use of inner resources by providing time for medication.
