Contexual Clues

QuestionAnswer
What is the meaning of context? parts of a written or spoken statement that are before or after a specific word or passage that can influence it's meaning
What should you understand about a phrase being stated? you should understand the context of the phrase- what clues does the sentence around the phrase give
What are contextual clues? when you look for the meaning of words or phrases by looking at the sentence surrounding the word or phrase
What can be tricky about looking for contextual clues? An answer can be right but not the correct answer
What does implied mean? suggested without being directly stated
What do you do when you are asked for the implied meaning of a statement in a passage? go find the statement and read the context it was made in?
What type of answer choice should you look for when asked to give the implied meaning of a statement? an answer that has a similar phrase to the statement in question
