Civil Rights rights granted to all citizens. All persons born in the U.S. except Native Americans.
Reconstruction process to readmit confederate states lasted fron 1865-1877
Lynched hanged, no trial, practiced by the Ku Klux Klan
Freedmen's Breau Established by Lincoln to set up schools & hospitals for Aferican Amer. and send representives to congress
Andrew Johnson Pres. when Lincoln was killed. A democrat, fromer slave holder, unlike Lincoln stubborn and unyeilding. Belived Reconstruction was a job of Pres. not congress. Johnson offered amnesty to the south
Black Codes laws passed by the South that limited the freedom of former slaves.
14th Admendment All citizens were granted "equal protection of the laws" everyone has the same rights 1866
