Hydrophilic “water loving” which refers to the head end of a phospholipid molecule. This head end will mix with water and repels interactions with nonpolar lipids. Synonym: polar
Osmosis the movement of water across a membrane from an area of high water concentration to an area of low water concentration. Example: water moving out of a leaf (or plant cell) that is placed in salt water.
Diffusion the random movement of particles through a substance from an area of high concentration of particles to an area of low concentration of particles. Examplespray perfume in the corner, the particles diffuse throughout the air& mixevenly throughouttheroom.
Solute the substance that gets dissolved when making a solution.
Solvent the substance that does the dissolving when making a solution.
