Neutrality Proclamation 1793- said that u.s. would not support either side. forbade Americans from aiding either Britain of France
French revolution 1789- u.s. supported it but then more violent. separated the nation. Thomas Jefferson-supported Hamilton + Adams did not believe in violence
whiskey rebellion congress passed tax on liquor-farmers mad. tax collectors came to collect and farmers rebelled. Washington responded quickly calling militia. g.w.'s quick response proved to u.s. that gov. would act during crisis and violence against gov. not tolerated
Hamilton's economic policy wanted to buy back all the bonds made during the revolutionary war then planed to issue new bonds to pay of old debts, then when gov. improved would pay back debt.

Judiciary act a 1789 law that created the structure of the supreme court and set up a system of district courts and circuit courts for the nation
Washington's Precedents Washington was the 1st president so had to set a good example for future generations.(constitution did not explain how president should govern day to day) so he named well known, talented leaders to head of gov. departments w/ congress. made up cabinet.
Jay's Treaty 1795- an agreement between brit. and the u.s. that said for brit. to pay for damages for seized american ships and to give up forts they still had in the west.
Washington's views on foreign policy 1796- Washington's fare well address he advised not to form alliances that could drag the country into war but did not oppose to foreign trade.
