Temperance | controlling our bodily desires, in the correct way and the correct amount, (usually in regard to food, sex, and alcohol) |
Concupiscence | This is the general and constant temptation or inclination all humans have towards sinning. |
Positive Morality | These are statements about morality that ask us to do something good |
Negative Morality | These are statements about morality that ask us to avoid evil |
Prudence | knowing and doing the right thing (right reason in action) |
Justice | giving to others what they deserve |
Courage | doing what is right even in the face of difficulty |
grace | is the help God gives to us freely out of His great love for us. We need this help from Him in order to live a good life. When we have lots of grace in our souls we have God’s life living in us |
natural law | is a type of knowledge. Humans gain all knowledge from one of three places 1) reason, 2) experience, or 3) revelation from God |
Objective morality | The true belief about morality that recognizes there are actual moral truths. Some actions are morally good and others are morally evil. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about moral issues but some folks are closer to the actual truth than others. J |
Subjective morality | The idea that there are no moral truths, right or wrong, all morality is only based on opinions and nothing more. Things like “right”, “wrong”, ”good,” and “evil” have no real value, except that which each individual assigns them at any given time. |
