Pharmacology Matching
POTASSIUM SPARING DIURETICS
Removes water, saves some potassium. Weak diuretic, used in combination with others. ex. amiloride; eplerenone; spironolactone; triamterene.
ACE INHIBITORS
Anti-hypertensive; reduces angiotensin II in body causing vasodilation and decreased water retention.
PROTON PUMP INHIBITORS
Reduction of gastric acid.
LOOP DIURETICS
Causes kidneys to produce more urine, therefore more output. ex. bumetanide; ethacrynic acid; furosemide; torsemide.
THIAZIDE DIURETICS
Removes water, removed potassium, removes magnesium. "Potassium depleting." ex. chlorothiazide; hydrochlorothiazide; metolazone; chlorthalidone; indapamide.
BETA BLOCKERS
Anti-hypertensive; negative inotropic effects, negative chronotropic effects, negative dromotropic effects, mild vasoconstriction. A/E: Bradycardia, cold extremities, fatigue.
CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKERS
Anti-hypertensive; negative inotropic effects, negative chronotropic effects, negative dromotropic effects.
