7th grade protist and organelles.

        Help!

Term
Definition
Protist   A (normally) single celled organism with a nucleus.
🗑
Amoeba   Protist that hunts using pseudopods.
🗑
Paramecium   Protist that eats others with a gullet and moves using cilia.
🗑
Euglena   Protist with chloroplasts and a single flagella.
🗑
Volvox   Protist that lives in colonies and uses photosynthesis to make sugar.
🗑
cilia   organelle that looks like hair, helps some protists move around.
🗑
flagellum   organelle that is a whip-like structure used for moving around.
🗑
Gullet   A mouth like organelle of some protists.
🗑
Contractile Vacuole   an organelle that shoots out or excretes extra water and waste.
🗑
food vacuole   organelle that helps break down or digest food, can also store nutrients.
🗑
cytoplasm   clear gel like organelle that fills up the inside of the cell, other organelles float in it.
🗑
cell membrane   the outside of the cell, a semipermeable membrane that allows some things to pass in or out and offers support and protection for the cell.
🗑
stigma   the eyespot of some protists used to help detect the sun.
🗑
cytoplasmic streaming   when the cytoplasm of a cell flows like a river.
🗑
pseudopod   the (fake foot) organelle that stretches out to move and hunt for amoeba.
🗑
chloroplast   organelle that uses sunlight to turn water and CO2 into sugar and oxygen.
🗑
organelle   a structure with a function in a cell.
🗑
mitochondria   organelle known as the powerhouse of the cell. It takes sugar and oxygen and burns it for energy, making CO2 and Water in the process.
🗑
Ribosome   Organelle that makes proteins, the factory of the cell.
🗑
Nucleus   The organelle in the center of the cell. The brain that stores DNA
🗑
Nucleolus   Organelle inside of the nucleus that creates ribosomes.
🗑
Cell Wall   Organelle only for plant cells, built outside the cell to provide support and protection. Allows trees to grow really tall.
🗑
Lysosome   organelle that recycles older or broken parts inside a cell.
🗑
Eye Spot   An organelle that helps some cells detect changes in light levels.
🗑
Nuclear Membrane   The Semi-Permeable membrane of the nucleus

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
