| Cultural Influence | • A place (a state or an ethnicity) can spontaneously adopt a different culture due to its political relevance, or to its perceived superiority. ie. Malaysian English is based on UK English

| • Cultural assimilation | the process by which a person or a group's language and/or culture come to resemble those of another group. Assimilation may involve either a quick or gradual change depending on circumstances of the group.

| • Full assimilation | occurs when new members of a society become indistinguishable from members of the other group.

| Conformity | involves changing your behaviors in order to "fit in" or "go along" with the people around you.

| • Informational influence | happens when people change their behavior in order to be correct. In situations where we are unsure of the correct response, we often look to others who are better informed and more knowledgeable and use their lead as a guide for our own behaviors.

| • Normative influence | stems from a desire to avoid punishments (such as going along with the rules in class even though you don't agree with them) and gain rewards (such as behaving in a certain way in order to get people to like you).

| • Compliance | changing one's behavior due to the request or direction of another person.

| • Obedience | involves performing an action under the orders of an authority figure.
🗑
|
||||
| • Social action | occurs as the result of cooperation and struggle between the individual and the wider society.
