Term
Definition
cytoplasm   the material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus. ( jelly like substance)
🗑
nucleus   control center of the cell. Contains DNA
🗑
cell membrane   thin, flexible barrier around a cell; regulates what enters and leaves the cell
🗑
chromosomes   Threadlike structure within a the nucleus containing the genetic info that is passed from one generation of cells to the next
🗑
mitochondria   powerhouse of the cell, organelle that is the site of ATP ( energy) production
🗑
chlorophyll   Green pigment in plants that absorbs light energy used to carry out photosynthesis
🗑
cytoskeleton   Network of protein filaments within some cells that helps the cell maintain its shape and allows movement
🗑
ribosomes   Responsible for protein synthesis
🗑
golgi apparatus   Stacks of flat membranous sacs that modify, store, and route products of the endoplasmatic reticulum
🗑
cell wall   Strong, supporting layer around the cell membrane in some cells
🗑
eukaryotes   Any cell that does have a nucleus and organelles I.e human cells
🗑
prokaryote   Any cell that does not have a nucleus or organelles I.e bacterial cells
🗑
mictotubules   Tubular structures that help the cell maintain structure and movement
🗑
centriole   Cylindrical structures that help the cell during cell division in animal cells
🗑
vacyole   spaces in the cytoplasm that store food and water
🗑
lysosomes   Cell organelle filled with enzymes needed to break down certain materials in the cell
🗑
nuclear envelope   A double membrane that surrounds the nucleus in the cell
🗑
nucleolus   The organelle where ribosomes are made, synthesized and partially assembled, located in the nucleus made of RNA and protein.
🗑
flagella   Long whip like tail used for movement
🗑
chromatin   Composed of DNA, condenses to form chromosomes
🗑
smooth endoplasmic reticulum   System of internal membranes within the cytoplasm. Membranes are smooth due to the lack of ribosomes. Functions to produce lipids and some enzymes.
🗑
rough endoplasmic reticulum   System of internal membranes within the cytoplasm. Membranes are rough due to the presence of ribosomes. Functions in transport of substances such as proteins within the cytoplasm
🗑
cilia   Small hairs used for movement or transport of materials
🗑
phospholipids   Molecules that make up cell membrane
🗑
chloroplast   Structure containing chlorophyll responsible for food production during photosynthesis
🗑
Prokayote   DNA is circular and floating in the cytoplasm
🗑
Eukaryotes   DNA is organized in the nucleus in chromosomes
🗑
vesicle   Small membrane-bound sac that functions in moving products into, out of, and within a cell.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
