Environment   Everything that surrounds and influences an organism.

Environmental Factor   One part of the environment. It can be nonliving, such as water, light, temperature, or chemical, or living, such as a plant or an animal.

Terrarium   A mini-garden in an enclosed container.

Organism   Any living thing, including plants and animals.

Germinate   Sprouting, initial growth, or developing of a seed.

Variable   Something that can be changed.

Isopod   Has seven pairs of legs that all function in the same way.

Beetle   An insect that has hard chitinous forewings that cover and protect membranous flightwings.

Preferred Environment   The set of environmental conditions that an organism appears to choose over other conditions.

Controlled Experiment   A set of compared investigations in which one variable is manipulated by steps while all other variables are controlled or kept the same.

Range of Tolerance   The varying conditions of one environmental factor in which an organism can survive.  
🗑
Optimum   The condition or degree of an environmental factor that is favorable to an organism’s growth, development, and reproduction.These environmental conditions are the best conditions for an organism.

Aquarium   A tank for keeping live water plants and animals.  
🗑
Indicator   A chemical used to test for the presence, absence, or amount of a substance in a material.

Carbon Dioxide   An odorless, colorless gas present in the atmosphere. It is released by animals and plants during respiration.

Brine Shrimp   Tiny animals related to crabs and lobsters.

Salinity   How salty the water is. The concentration of salt in water.

Viable   Alive and able to grow

Irrigate   To water crops by artificial means

Drought   A long period of dry weather.

Salt-tolerant   Plants that can survive in salty environments

Salt-sensitive   Plants that cannot survive in salty environments
