| chestnuts | (old digits) near the knee on front legs and the hock on back legs |
| coffin joint | the joining of the coffin bone (hoof) and the short pastern |
| corners | 3rd incisor in equine |
| coronary band | junction between the skin and the horn(hoof) (also called coronet) |
| crest | root of the mane. on the neck |
| croup | muscular area around and above the tail |
| cutters | 2nd incisors of equine |
| dock | solid part of the tail |
| elbow | distal humerus proximal radius and proximal ulna (close to the shoulder) |
| ergot | small keratinized mass of a horn.(old digits) |
| fetlock | between the pasture and the cannon bone |
| fetlock joint | joint that attaches the cannon and fetlock bone |
| flank | side of the body between the ribs and the ilium |
| forelock | cranial part of the mane hanging on the forehead |
| frog | the V-shape pad of soft horn between the bars of the sole on an equines foot |
| gaskin | the muscular portion on the hind limb between the stifle and the hook |
| heart girth | circumference of the chest behind the front legs |
| heel | caudal Region of the hoof that has an area of soft tissue called the bulb |
| hock | tarsal joint |
| hoof | hard covering of the digit in ungulates |
| ungulate | hoofed animal |
| hoof wall | the hard horny outer layer of the hoof (the toenail) |
| knee | the carpus in ungulates |
| loin | lumbar region of the back between the thorax and the pelvis (lower back) |
| mane | long coarse hair along the neck ending at the pole |
| muzzle | two nostrils and muscles of the upper and lower lip |
| pole | top of the head |
| nipper | central incisors of equine |
| paralumbar fossa | hollow area of the flank (dorsal) |
| pastern | area between the fetlock and hoof |
| pastern joint | connects the fetlock and the pastern (p1 & P2) |
| Quarter | lateral or mid side of the hoof (sides of the hoof) |
| shoulder | region around the joint between the humerus and scapula (scapula = collar bone) |
| sole | Palmer or planter surface of the hoof crescent shape (palm) |
| stifle joint | joint between tibia and femur (stifle) |
| tail | vertebrae column extending beyond the trunk. |
| tail head | base of the tail where it connects to the body |
| teat | nipple of the udder |
| toe | cranial side of the hoof |
| udder | mammary gland |
| white line | fusion between the wall and the sole of the hoof |
| withers | hump at the bottom of a mane |
| brisket | dangled fat on a bovines chest |
| dewclaw | accessory claw of the ruminant foot from the fetlock |
| dewlap | loose skin around the chest and neck |
| forearm | between the elbow and the knee |
| forehead | between the eyes |
| pedal | pertaining to the foot |
| pins | protrusion of the ischium bones just lateral to the base of the tail in ruminants |
| ruminants | mammals that are omnivores and have more than one stomach |
| switch | tuft of hair at the end of a tail |
| chine | thoracic region of the back (behind the whither) |
| hooks | protrusion of the wing of the ilium on the dorsal lateral area of ruminants |
| horn butt | pole region between the eyes and ears of previous horn growth |
| rump | the butt |
| wattle | appendage suspended under the head on the chin (usually on goats) |
| ham | upper thigh of swine |
| jowl | external throat of swine, especially when loose skin and fat is present |
| snout | upper lip and apex of the nose of swine |

| pinna | projecting part of the ear lying outside the head (auricle) |
