| Term | Definition |
| Homeostasis | the ability of an organism to maintain steady internal conditions when external conditions change. |
| Digestive System | Responsible for getting food into and out of the body, breaking it down, and making use of the food to keep the body healthy. |
| Excretory System | Responsible for removing solid, liquid and gas waste materials from the body. |
| Respiratory System | Exchanges gases between the body and its environment. |
| Circulatory system | Transports nutrients, gases, wastes, and other substances through the body. |
| Lymphatic System | Responsible for helping your body maintain fluid homeostasis. It also helps the body defend against infection. |
| Lymphocyte | a type of white blood cell that protects the body from infection. |
| Immunity | The resistance to specific pathogens, or disease-causing agents. |
| Skeletal System | made of mostly bones. Responsible for protecting internal organs, providing support, helping the body move, and stores minerals. |
| Muscular System | made up of different types of muscle tissue. It works together with the skeletal system to help the body move. |
| Nervous System | A group of organs and specialized cells that detect, process, and respond to information. |
| Neuron | is a nerve cell, or the basic unit of the nervous system. |
| Reflex | Automatic movement in response to a signal. |
| Voluntary Control | Things that are not automatic. Things you choose to make happen like reading, talking, and walking. |
| Involuntary Control | Things that do not require you to think about them to make them happen like breathing, digestion, and blinking. |
| Endocrine System | Is responsible for using hormones to communicate with other organ systems. |
| Hormones | Chemical signals released by organs of the endocrine system. |
