| asexual reproduction | reproduction that does not involve the union of sex cells and in which one parent produces offspring identical to itself |
| sexual reproduction | reproduction in which sex cells from two parents unite, producing offspring that share traits from both parents |
| genetic diversity | trait differences within a species (i.e. color, size) |
| clone | an organism that is genetically identical to another organism |
| budding | a form of asexual reproduction in which a part of the parent organism pinches off and forms a new organism |
| binary fission | a form of asexual reproduction in single-celled organisms by which one cell divides into two cells of the same size |
| fragmentation | a form of asexual reproduction in which parts of an organism break off and then develop into new individuals that are identical to the original one |
| regeneration | a form of asexual reproduction in which an organism loses a body part that develops into an entirely new organism |
| gametes | sex cells which unite together in sexual reproduction to form offspring (i.e. egg and sperm) |
| vegetative propagation | Kind of asexual reproduction that uses parts of plants to grow new plants |
