| Human - Environmental Interaction | The connection and exchange between humans and the natural world/environment |
| Natural Resource | Items that occur in the natural environemtn that people can use |
| Renewable natural resources | unlimited resources that will not be depleted by human use |
| Non-renewable resources | limited resources that can be exhausted by human use |
| Sustainability | trying to use resources in ways that will allow their use in the future while minimizing impacts on the environment |
| Land | The study of how land is utilized, modified and organized by people. |
| Built Environment | The physical artifacts that humans have created and the form part of the landscape. |
| Cultural Ecology | the study of how humans adapt to the environment |
| Environmental Determinism | The belief that landforms and climate are the most powerful forces shaping human behavior and societal development while ignoring the influence of culture. |
| Possibilism | A view that acknowledges limits on the affects of the natural environment and focuses more on the role human culture plays. |
