| bias | systematic variation from true score in a consistent way |
| Reliability: internal consistency | measuring of items |
| reliability: test-retest consistency | measurement overtime also called intra-rater |
| reliability: inter-rater | between different raters |
| reliability: parallel forms | across different versions |
| validity: face | does it look like it is supposed to? |
| validity: content | does it cover all the items? |
| validity: convergent | does the study correspond to other studies of similiar constructs? |
| validity: discriminant | does the study lack correspondence to other studies of different constructs? |
| validity: predictive | does the measure relate to future outcomes? |
| validity: concurrent | does the measure relate to outcomes as you would expect when measured together? |
| simple random sample | randomly pick a subset of a population |
| stratified random sample or area probability | divide the population and randomly sample from the groups |
| cluster random sample | divide the population and randomly select entire groups |
| nonprobability sampling | not everyone has a chance at being selected because it isn't random |
| convenience | readily available group |
| quota | pick participants because they meet predetermined criteria |
| purposive | pick participants based on certain qualities you're studying |
| snowball | participants that already participated recruit other participants |
