| Limbic System | Important for learning and emotional behavior. Contains Hippocampus, amygdala and hypothalamus |
| Corpus Callosum | part that connects the hemispheres of the brain |
| Occipital Lobe | vision |
| Parietal Lobe | receives tough and body position |
| Temporal Lobe | auditory areas |
| Frontal Lobe | speaking muscles moving , plans and judgement |
| Association Areas | higher functions like memory, thinking, speaking. |
| Hypothalamus | pleasure center and controls hunger and body temp |
| Cereberal Cortex | Ultimate control and information processing center |
| Sympathetic Nervous system | fight or flight |
| Parasympathetic Nervous System | calming of the body |
| Thalamus | transfers information from sensory recpetors to the brain |
| Brain Stem | where spinal cord meets the brain |
| Cerebellum | coordinates the body's movements |

| medulla | controls heart rate breathing and blood pressure |
| plasticity | the idea that the brain can be changed structurally and chemically via experiences |
| peripheral nervous sytem | Consists of sympathetic and parasympathetic. connects the central nervous to brain/spinal cord |
| receptor site | locations on receptor neuron for specific neurotransmitters |
| neurotransmitters | chemicals released by synaptic vescicles |
| synaptic vesicles | sacs in terminal button that release the chemicals |

| terminal button | enlarged area at the end of an axon |
| synapse | contains terminal buttons of one neuron, the synaptic space and the dendrites of the cell body of the receiving neurons |

| relative refractory period | when the neuron fires with strong stimulus |
