most of our learning has been: shaped
shaping = we learn gradually, technique - closer approximations to desired behavior required for delivery of positive reinforcement
what are the three types of learning? classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning
who came up with the idea of classical conditioning? Ivan Pavlov
what four things did pavlov say were apart of classical conditioning? UCR-->UCS<-->CS-->CR
unconditioned stimulus: stimulus that evokes response first time (no training)
unconditioned response: the response evoked by an UCS (no training)
conditioned stimulus: stimulus repeatedly paired with the UCS
conditioned response: response to the CS
Operant conditioning: based on rewards and punishments
two types of reinforcement: (rewards) positive and negative
positive reinforcement: rewards and strengthens responses
negative reinforcement: aversive stimuli that strengthen responses to avoid or escape from them (remove) (when the husband does the dishes the wife stops nagging him) --something bad that can be removed
what does research say is most effective as far as learning? positive and negative reinforcement
observational learning: modeling!
what are the 4 ways to model? pay attention, store in memory, repeat/reproduce, be motivated
what is an example of observational learning Bandura...Bobo Doll, dancing, tying shoes, fischer price toys, etc.
