How do you check an unconscious person? | You use the AVPU scale |
What is the AVPU scale? | A: Aleart-Can carry on a conversation and is aware of their surroundings V:Verbal- Only responds to you when you give them a command P:Pain- Only respond to you when you cause mild pain U:Unresponsive-does not respond to you at all |
If the person is alert what should you do? | Ask them questions such as what happened, what is wrong, what medical problems do they have, and so on. Make sure they do not move anything that hurts. |
If the person is verbal what should you do? | Ask the same questions from the alert section, call 9-1-1, and be prepared to give care. |
If the person is experiencing pain what do you do? | Call 9-1-1, ask bystanders what happened, and monitor them, if they become unconscious give care. |
How to apply pain? | Ear-lobe pinch, sternum rub (nuckle to chest), and nail bed pinch. |
What do you do if the person is unresponsive? | Call 9-1-1, Check their ABC's, and give CPR if there is no breathing. |
What is ABC? | A-Airway B-Breathing C-Circulation |
