Term | Definition |
---|---|
Archimedes' Priciple | The rule that the bouyant force on a object is equal to the weight of the fluid the object displaces |
Bernoulli's Principle | The rule that a stream of fast-moving fluid exerts more pressure than the surronding fluid |
Bouyant force | The upward force exerted by a fluid on a submerged object |
Centripetal Force | A force that causes an object to move in a circle |
effciency | The percentage of work that is converted to output work |
Inertia | The tendencey of an object to resist in any change of it's motion |
Mechanical Advantage | The number of times a machine increases force exerted on it |
net force | The overall force of an object when all the individual forces acting on it are added together |
newton | A unit of measurethat equals the force required to accelertae one kilogram of mass at one meter per second |
pascal | A unit of measure equal to one unit per square measure |
Pascal's Priciple | The rule that when a force is applied to a confined fluid, the increase in pressure is transmitted equally throughout the fluid |
rolling friction | Friction that occurs when an object rolls over a surface |
sliding friction | Friction that occurs when one solid surface slides over another |
terminal velocity | The greatest velocity a falling object can achive |
velocity | Speed in a given direction |
wedge | A simple machine that is an inclined plane that moves |
weight | The force of gravity on an object a the surface of a planet |
work | Force excerted on an object forcing it to move |
