Digestive Cells
Structures and Functions
Name | Structure, Functions |
---|---|
Parietal Cell | Parietal cells release gastric acid, converting the pepsinogen (secreted by Chief cells) into pepsin. |
Chief Cell | Chief cells release pepsinogen. It works in conjunction with the parietal cell, which releases gastric acid, converting the pepsinogen into pepsin. |
Enteroendocrine Cells - Produce | Enteroendocrine cells produce hormones: serotonin, somatostatin, motilin, cholecystokinin, GIP. Most are found in the islets of Langerhans, but they are also found in other locations. |
Enteroendocrine Cells - Secrete | They secrete GI hormones and peptides like Gastrin, GIP, Cholecystokinin, glucagon, somatostatin, secretin and serotonin. this helps regulate the GI system but can also cause tumors. |
Stem Cell | he majority of cell s in the crypt are these undifferentiated cells. they are cuboidal to low columnar with fewshort villi. They divide and give rise to absorptive enterocytes and secretory cells like goblet, enteroendocrine and Paneth cells. |
Paneth Cell | Located at the base of the Crypts of Lieberkuhn they play a role in mucosal defence by secreting antimicrobial, defencing |
Globet Cell | Located on the lateral walls of the Crypts of Lieberkuhn and the villi scattered among the enerocytes. They secrete muclin that lubricates the lumen.as well as lysozyme and IgA. |
Enterocyte (villi, microvilli) | They are the majority of the cells on the villi. They are columnar cells with a prominent brush border. Brush border =microvilli. These are responsible for nutrient absorption. |
