Clone Genetically identical copy of gene or organism
Primer Short strand of DNA that is the starting point or a new DNA strand
Restriction Enzyme An enzyme that cuts the DNA at a specific nucleotide
DNA Fingerprint Used to identify an organism by analyzing the DNA
Genomics The study of genomes
Gene Therapy Replacement, addition, or deletion of a defective gene into a genome to treat the disease
Genetic Engineering Changing an organism's DNA to give the a new organism the original organism's traits
Recombinant DNA DNA that contains genes from one or more other organisms
Plasmid closed loops of DNA in bacteria
Transgenic An organism that has one or more genes from another organism inherited into its own genome
Genetic Screening testing an organism DNA to figure out the risk of having or passing along a genetic disorder.
Gene Sequencing Figuring out the order of DNA nucleotides in genes
Human Genome Project A map and sequence of a human genetic code and identify all the genes in a sequence
Gel Electrophoresis An electrical current used to separate DNA pieces from each other according to size.
Bioinformatics The use of computer databases to organize and analyze biological data
Polymerase Chain Reaction A reaction that produces millions of copies of DNA sequences quickly
