pt populatins where in sulin is used? those with Type II diabetes for whom oral meds and diet are not effective, hospitalized patients who have transient hyperglycemia, all type I diabetic patients.
this is "regular insulin" crystalline zinc insulin. it effectively reduces glucose levels in 30-60 minutes. peak action is 1-2 hrs, with duration of about seven hrs. fast acting
cateogory of CZI? short or rapid acting
another rapid acting insulin? insulin lispro, with an onset of action of 15-30 minutes. insulin glkulisine has an onset of 20-25 minutes.
what is an intermediate acting insulin? Lente. NPH has about hte same profile of onset.
long acting insulin ultralente, made of large particles that are slow to dissolve, yielding a slow onset of action and longer duration. insuling glargine is also long acting, along with protamine zinc insulin.
this is a long acting insulin with a flat action profile, so there is not peak or touhg. works for up to 23 hours insulin detemir.
