What three things does the speed of sound depend on? Density, elasticity, temperature
Loudness correlates with which part of the wave? Amplitude
Pitch correlates with which part of the wave? Frequency
What causes the Doppler Effect? Source is moving, so frequency of the wave changes. The motion of the source and the motion of the wave combine.
Give an example of the Doppler Effect. A fire truck goes by and the siren sounds different as the truck is going away from you.
What is echolocation? The use of a reflected sound wave to determine distance or location of an object.
What is an electromagnetic wave? Vibrating electric or magnetic fields.
Can an electric and magnetic field be separated? No.
What kind of angle separates the electric and megnetic field? Right angle
Do electromagnetic waves require a medium? No.
Do mechanical waves require a medium? Yes.
Which electromagnetic waves travel fastest? Radio waves.
List the seven categories of electromagnetic waves. Radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, visible light waves, unltraviolet rays, x-rays, gammma rays
What are the two models for electromagnetic waves? Wave model, and particle model
What is polarized light? Light waves that pass through a polarized filter.
