Pulmonary Artery Catheter | Used to determine the hemodynamic status of critically ill patients. |
Cardiac Output (C.O.) | the amount of blood ejected by the left ventricle in one minuted. Normal is 4-8 liters per minuted. |
Cardiac Index (C.I.) | The amout of blood ejected by the left ventricle in one minuted divived by the patients body surface area. Normal is 2.8-4.2 liters/min/m2 |
Stroke Volume | The amount of blood ejected by the left ventricle with each contraction. Noramls is 0-100 ml per contraction. |
Preload | The amount of blood in the left ventricle at the end of diastole and is measured by teh PAWP. |
Afterload | The amount of pressure or force the left ventricle must genterate to eject the blood into the systemic circulation. |
Pulmonary Artery/Distal Lumen Port | Yellow - measures PAS, PAD, and PCWP. Never infuse fluids. |
Balloon inflation lumen | Red - measures PCWP. Never infuse flids. |
RA injecate lumen | Blue - measures CVP. Used for fluid infusion or blood sampeling. |
Sideort Lumen | Clear- second infusion lumen or for blood sampeling. |
