The brain

Neurotransmitters chemicals such as acetylcholine and dopamine
Cerecal cortex Outer layer of brain, from the latin word for "bark"
Synapse Junction between the axon terminals of the sending neuron and the dendrites of the receiving room
Limbic System forms a border around the brain stem and is involved in survival behaviors
hypothalamus tiny,vital to regulation of the body temp. storage of nutrients and various aspects of motivation and emotion
myelin white,fatty substance that insulates and protects the axon
Medulla Part of the hindbrain involved in heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing
pons involved in regulating the body movements attention sleep and alertness.
somatic nervous system transmits sensory messages to the central nervous system
Dendrites carry information to the cell body
Thalamus Relay station for sensory stimulation,including sight and hearing.
Corpus Callosum structure that connects the two hemispheres of the brain
cell body Produces energy to fuel call activity
Spinal Cord Carries messages from the brain to specific muscles
Axon Transmits messages away from the cell body
Peripheral nervous system transmits messages between the central nervous system and all parts of the body
