Cell body keeps the neuron alive, decide whether or not it will fire.
Dendrites deliver messages to cell body from other neurons
Axon Transmits messages away from cell body to other neurons
Axon Terminals branches at the end of an axon
Myelin Sheath fatty covering of cells
Glial Cells provide nutrients for nerve cells
Synapse space b/t neurons
Neurotransmitter chemical substance that binds with dendrites to EXCITE or INHIBIT firing.
Serotonin affects sleep, appetite, sensory perception, pain suppression, mood
Dopamine affects voluntary movement, learning, memory, & emotion.
Acetylcholine affects muscle action, cognition, memory, emotion
Norepinephrine affects heart-rate (stress), learning, memory, emotion
GABA major inhibitor in the brain
Endorphins alter effects of neurotransmitters
