View of Maladaptive Behavior | Sees maladaptive bheavior as being related to lack of functioning in one or more of the seven areas. |
Therapeutic Goals | The BASIC ID system allows for the identification of specific problems and areas where improvement in the client is needed; for more disturbed clients it may focus on "actualization and self-determination rather than pathology" |
Therapeutic Techniques | Evaluation or diagnosis is accomplished by assessing the client with regard to each of the seven modalities (BASIC ID) individually, as well as the interactions among them. |
Eight Issues that should be addressed | 1) Conflictin or ambivalent feelings the client may have; 2) Maladaptive behaviors of the clients; 3) Misinformation provided by the client; 4) Missing information, or information that the client does not, or is unwilling to, provide; |
Eight issues (cont) | 5) Interpersonal pressures and demands the client is experiencing; 6) External stressors outside the client's immediate interpersonal network; 7) Severe traumatic experiences suffered by the client; & 8) Biological dysfunctions experienced by the client. |
