Scientific Method A technique for solving a problem
Control Group Group that is not exposed to the treatment, comparison for evaluating the effect of the treatment
Sustainability Concept of using Earth's resources in a way that they provide for people's needs in the present without diminishing Earth's ability to provide for future generations
Hypothesis Possible explanation for a set of observations or answer to a scientific question; testable
Renewable Resources Natural resources that are replenished over short periods of time
Nonrenewable Resources Natural resources that are in finite supply, and once they are depleted, no more are available
Variables Conditions in an experiment that may change
Independent Variable The variable that gets changed/gets manipulated
Dependent Variable The variable that is changed based on the independent variable
Controlled Experiment An experiment in which the scientist tests only one variable
