erosion | moves sediment or soil by water, wind, or ice |
deposition | drops off sediment by water, wind or ice |
floodplain | a place that floods easily when water rises |
minerals | solid, nonliving substances found in nature |
landforms | physical features on the Earth’s surface |
constructive force | natural processes that create landforms |
destructive force | natural processes that destroy Earth’s surface and landforms |
glacier | a large sheet or river of ice |
hot spot | an area where molten rock from within the mantle rises close to Earth’s surface |
geosphere | the layers of solid and molten rock, dirt, and soil on Earth |
hydrosphere | Earth’s water found on land and in oceans and the freshwater found underground as well as in glaciers, lakes, and rivers |
