Electrical terms

Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Battery a container consisting of one or more cells, in which chemical energy is converted into electricity and used as a source of power.
Circuit a roughly circular line, route, or movement that starts and finishes at the same place.
Open Circuit an electrical circuit that is not complete.
Closed Circuit a complete electrical connection around which current flows or circulates.
Conductor an object or type of material that allows the flow of an electrical current in one or more directions.
Transformer a device that transfers an alternating current from one circuit to one or more other circuits, usually with an increase (step-up transformer) or decrease (step-down transformer) of voltage.
Voltage an electromotive force or potential difference expressed in volts.
Kilowatt a measure of 1,000 watts of electrical power.
Static Statics is the branch of mechanics that is concerned with the analysis of loads (force and torque, or "moment") acting on physical systems that do not experience an acceleration (a=0), but rather, are in static equilibrium with their environment.
