Term | Definition |

Span | The full extent of something from end to end; the amount of space that something covers. |
Compression | The action of compressing or being compressed. |
Suspension | The temporary prevention of something from continuing or being in force or effect. |
Bridge | A structure carrying a road, path, railroad, or canal across a river, ravine, road, railroad, or other obstacle. |
Dispute | A disagreement, argument, or debate. |
Buckle | A flat, typically rectangular frame with a hinged pin, used for joining the ends of a belt or strap. |
Tension | The state of being stretched tight. |
Stable | Firmly fixed. |
Torsion | The action of twisting or the state of being twisted, especially of one end of an object relative to the other. |
Cantilevers | A long projecting beam or girder fixed at only one end, used in bridge construction. |
Buckling | Bend and give way under pressure or strain. |
Cable | A thick rope of wire or nonmetallic fiber, typically used for construction, mooring ships, and towing vehicles. |
Rigid | Unable to bend or be forced out of shape; not flexible. |
Abutment | A structure built to support the lateral pressure of an arch or span, e.g. at the ends of a bridge. |
Beam | A long, sturdy piece of squared timber or metal spanning an opening or part of a building, usually to support the roof or floor above. |
Snapping | The action of breaking suddenly and completely, typically with a sharp cracking sound. |
Joint | The action of breaking suddenly and completely, typically with a sharp cracking sound. |
Transfer | Move from one place to another. |
Pier | A platform supported on pillars or girders leading out from the shore into a body of water, used as a landing stage for boats. |
Truss | A framework, typically consisting of rafters, posts, and struts, supporting a roof, bridge, or other structure. |
Torsion | The action of twisting or the state of being twisted, especially of one end of an object relative to the other. |
Arch Bridge | Is a bridge with abutments at each end shaped as a curved arch. |
Force | Strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement. |
Beam Bridge | Are the simplest structural forms for bridge spans supported by an abutment or pier at each end. |
