Pumper Chapter 7

QuestionAnswer
What factors contribute to total pressure loss? Condition of of the hose and couplings as well as any kinks in the hoseline. Primary consideration is the volume of water flowing per minute
How is pump discharge pressure calculated? PDP-Pump Discharge Pressure in pounds per square inch (psi) NP-Nozzle pressure in pounds per square inch (psi) TPL-Total Pressure Loss in pounds per square inch(psi) (TPL accounts for pressure loss due to friction, elevation, and appliances)
generic term to any nozzle wye, Siemese, deluge monitor, or other piece of hardware in conjunction with fire hose for the purpose of delivering water Appliance
actual pressure of the water as it leaves the pump and enters the hoseline Pump Discharge Pressure
Pump Discharge Pressure PDP
Fog Nozzle 100 psi (700 kPa)
Solid Stream Nozzle (handline) 50 psi (350 kPa)
measured in pounds per square inch or kilopascals Pump Discharge Pressure
total amount of pressure being discharged by a pump Pump Discharge Pressure
Low Pressure Fog Nozzle 50 0r 75 psi (350 or 525 kPa)
In mathematical terms, it is the pump intake pressure plus the net pump discharge pressure Pump Discharge Pressure
