Synergize

Module 15: Value differences-What is the Main Point? Valuing differences is about more than race or gender, and enriches your life experiences.
What are the principles of Habit 6? Diversity Collaboration
What should we see in order to synergize? We can create a higher way that is better than your way or my way.
What should we do in order to synergize ? Value differences Go for the 3rd alternative
What should we get when we synergize? New and better ideas, great relationships.
Diversity is______ 1. The state or fact of being diverse; difference; unlikeness. 2. the inclusion of individuals representing more than one national origin, color, religion, socioeconomic stratum, sexual orientation, etc. 3. Variety, multiformity
Collaboration is ______ 1. The process or state of working with one another; cooperation.
Synergy is ______ 1. The interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, contributions, etc.
What are some beliefs of the Habit 6 paradigm? 1. You can do better in college working with others than working alone. 2. You don't always need to have the best ideas. 3. Other people's strengths can make up for your weaknesses, and vice versa.
What are the 6 "Gains" of Diversity? 1. Expands global awareness. 2. Enhances social awareness. 3. Prepares students for future career success. 4. Increases your knowledge base. 5. Promotes creative thinking. 6. Enhances self-awareness
Module 16: Go for the 3rd alternative--What is the main point ? There is always a new and better solution to any problem, and synergy can get you there.
Step 1 for getting to the 3rd alternative. Define the problem. Make sure you understand the real problem.
Step 2 for getting to the 3rd alternative. Listen to their views. Listen empathically to others views first. 2 goals: Make sure you understand everyone's best thinking AND make sure everyone feels understood.
Step 3 for getting to the 3rd alternative. Share your views. Share your best thinking, expand on their ideas, make sure you feel understood.
Step 4 for getting to the 3rd alternative. Brainstorm. Let everyone brainstorm, generate ideas without stopping to judge or reject them.
Step 5 for getting to the 3rd alternative. Choose the best idea. Consider all ideas, build on them, take bits and pieces from different ideas and put them together in a new way.
Synergy is the ultimate habit AND_____ The point of all the other habits. The reward of effective living.
