Question | Answer |
---|---|
How did Mendel study pea plants? | By cross breeding 2 different pea plants. |
How many trait s did Mendel study at one time? | 1 trait at a time. |
Where and when did Mendel live? | Brno and 1822-1884. |
What is the difference between how Gregor Mendel did his reasearch compared to other scientists? | He used the scientific method. |
How did Mendel use his probability in his research? | Mathamatics |
Define inheritance | The passing of traits from parents to offspring. |
Define Genes | segment of DNA on a chromosome or a chromatid that controls a particular trait. |
How do genes appear on homologus chromosomes and why? | genes appear on a chromosome in pairs because they need to go through the stages of mitosis. |
Define allele | an alternate expression of a gene expressed by large and small letters. |
How is an allele expressed? | LARGE and small letters |
how many alleles are there for each genotype? Why? | 2 alleles, 1 for dominint and 1 for recessice |
Define genotype | The actual genetic makup of the organism. |
Define phenotype | Physical description of trait based on genotype |
What is the principle of dominant and recessive? | You have both dominint and recessive but you can only see dominant. |
How are dominant and recessive traits shown in a genotype? | How ypu express yourself. |
What is the difference between parental and filial group? | parental=wrinkled seeds filial=rounded |
Define Punnett Square | Used to predict the resultsof a cross without actually crossing the traits. |
What do punnett squares represent? | 100% probability |
define the difference between homozygous dominant, homozygous rececive and heterozygous.(give examples of each) | homozygous dominant LARGE letter, LARGE letter(BB) homozygous recessive small letter, small letter (bb) heterozygous LARGE letter, small letter |
