dialogue | what they say |
monologue | a long speech |
aside | a remark |
speech tag | something that labels dialogue |
farce | a humorous play |
melodrama | a form that doesn't have cause and effect |
Playwright | the writes of a play |
flashback | a scene that goes back in time |
foreshadowing | a warning for the future |
irony | state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary |
Verbal irony | language that signifies the opposite |
situational irony | something that doesn't happen right |
dramatic irony | The audience knows about things that are going to happen but the characters don't |
playbill | a poster announcing a theater performance |
poetic justice | fact of experiencing a fitting or deserved retribution for someone's actions |
setting | the time and place |
set | the scenery |
prop | something an actor uses |
stage directions | directions for the actors |
theme | the story's idea |
tragedy | a bad or sad event |
tragic flaw | a bad mistake |
