Term | Definition |

Gene | Section of a chromosome that controls traits. |
Trait | Genetic term for characteristic. |
Genotype | The gene make-up of a trait. |
Phenotype | The physical appearance of a trait, determined by the genotype. |
Chromosome | The thread-like structures in the nucleus of every cell that control heredity. |
Dominant | The form of a trait that is more likely to be seen and can prevent other traits from showing up. |
Recessive | The form of a trait that cannot be seen when a dominant allele is present, and can only be seen when inherited in the homozygous form. |
Allele | Different forms of a gene that code for the same trait. |
Hybrid | A synonym for heterozygous. |
Heterozygous | A genotype made up of two different alleles for the trait. (DON'T choose Hybrid as the answer.) |
Homozygous | The genotype made up of two of the same alleles for the trait. |
