Cell Transport (M)
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Solvent | Substance it is dissolved into. Example: Water |
Solute | Substance that is dissolved. Example: Cool Aid |
Exocytosis | Materials move OUT of the cell. |
Endocytosis | Materials move INTO the cell. |
Active Transport | The cell has to USE ENERGY to move materials across the cell membrane. |
Facilitated Diffusion | Large molecules move through the cell membrane through the PROTEIN CHANNELS. |
Diffusion | When molecules move from areas of HIGH concentration to areas of LOW concentration. |
Osmosis | Movement of WATER (H2O) through the cell membrane. |
Isotonic Solution | Solutions that are the SAME strength. |
Hypertonic Solution | The solution is MORE concentrated. |
Hypotonic Solution | The solution is LESS concentrated. |
