Key Health and Safety Definitions
Term | Definition |

Hazard | Anything that can cause harm. |
Risk | The chance, high or low, that somebody will get/be harmed by a hazard. |
Risk Assessment | An evaluation as to what the risks are and whether precautions are adequate or more should be done. |
Accident | An unfortunate incident that unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury |
Injury | An instance of being harmed |
Biological | Bacteria, viruses, animals, and humans etc |
Chemical | depends on the physical, chemical and toxic properties of the chemical |
Ergonomic | repetitive movements improper set up of workstation, etc |
Physical | Radiation, magnetic fields, pressure extremes (high pressure or vacuum), noise, etc |
Phychoscocial | stress, voilence, etc |
Safety | slipping/tripping hazards, inappropriate machine guarding, equipment or breakdowns |
