What is angina pectoris? temporary loss of oxygen to the heart
What is asystole? where the heart stops generating electrical activity
What is atherosclerosis? condition where fatty deposits build up on the walls of the arteries
What is cardiac arrest? where the heart stops beating
What is CPR? cardiopulmonary resuscitation
What is cardiovascular disease? disease of the heart and blood vessels
What is cholesterol? fatty substance made in the body and found in certain foods.
What are the coronary arteries? blood vessels that supply the heart muscle with oxygen rich blood
What is defibrillation? an electrical shock that disrupts the electrical activity of the heart
What is a heart attack? sudden death of heart muscle tissue
What are risk factors? conditions or behaviors that that increase the chance that a person will develop a disease
What is ventricular fibrillation (v-fib) quivering of the heart
What is ventricular tachycardia (v-tach) rapid contractions of the heart
Cardiac Chain of Survival? Early access, CPR, defibrillation, advanced care
What can lessen heart attack damage? aspirin
When should you stop CPR? too tired, scene becomes unsafe.
Before using an AED, check the victim and take off what? patches
What type of pads do we use with an AED? adults get adult pads and children get child pads.
How many compresions do we deliver in one minute? 100
What if the choking victim is obese and pregnant? Chest thrusts
