eating disorders food patterns that can impair health and well-being.
anorexia nervosa most common in white females in their teens or early 20's, but is becoming more common in childhood, middle age, and in males. exert severe control over eating.
warning signs of anorexia self starvation, perfectionism, weight loss of at least 15%,no menstrual periods, denial of hunger, excessive exercising, unrealistic of image of the self as obese
parenteral nutrition nutrients delivered intravenously (IV).
nasogastric feedings Delivery of formula through a tube that goes from the nose to the stomach
psychotherapy The treatment of mental or emotional disorders primarily with verbal, therapeutic communication
bulimia nervosa involves eating large amounts of food (bingeing) and then purging by self induced, vomiting, laxatives, or diuretics.
warning signs of bulimia buying and consuming large amounts of food, purging after eating, using the bathroom immediately after eating, using laxatives and diuretics, mood swings, depression and guilt
binge-eating disorder similar to bulimia without the purging behavior. people chronically over-eat.
