schedule l | includes substances that have a high potential for abuse and no approved medical use in the US. are illegal and providers cant prescribe them. ex: heroin, mescaline, and lysergic acid (LCD), marijuana |
schedule ll | substances that have high potential for abuse, considered dangerous, can lead to phycological and physical dependence. ex: morphine, methadone, oxycodone, hydrocodone providers must give written RX with no refills. |
schedule lll | substances that have a moderate to low potential for any dependence. ex: ketamine, anabolic steroids, testosterone. providers must give written prescription and may refill up to 5 times in 6 months |
schedule lV | substances that have a low potential for abuse and dependence. ex: diazepam, zolpidem, escopiclone, alprazolam, clonazepam. providers must sign for these RX's and may be refilled 5 times in 6 months. staff can authorize refills over the phone |
schedule V | substances that contain limited quantities of some narcotics, usually for antidiarrheal, antitussive, and analgesic purposes. ex: diphenoxylate, pregabalin, opium. provider must sign for these and can be refilled 5 times in 6 months. staff can refill |
