absolute risk ratio of the number of people who have a medical event to those who could have the event because of a medical condition.
bias a systematic error that produces a research finding that deviates from a valid finding.
bioinformatics a scientific discipline that combines the tools and techniques of mathematics, computer science, and biology to understand the biological significance of data.
number needed to treat (NNT) the number of patients who must be treated to prevent the occurrence of the condition under examination.
personal health record (PHR) a file that contains information about your own health that you store electronically for easy reference.
primary source a document that describes research in which the authors directly participated.
relative risk ratio of the chance of a disease developing among people who are exposed to a specific factor compared with those who are not exposed.
scientific communication a type of technical communication used by scientists and nonscientists to provide information and promote understanding.
secondary source a document that summarizes the result of several studies
statistical data numerical information gathered through research that is used to draw conclusions about research findings.
tertiary source a document compiled from primary and secondary sources that gives an overview of a specific topic.
