School Analogies

Comparing parts of a cell to parts of the school.

QuestionAnswer
Analogy Comparing something we know to something we're learning.
Nucleus / Mr. Rullo In control of everything in the cell
Ribosomes / Teachers, support staff, coaches Build and synthesize proteins in the cell
Lysosomes / Nurses, counsellors, janitors Repair and fix things that are broken, and clean up waste
Cell Membrane / Attendance Office Allows only certain things to enter and leave the cell
Cell Wall/ School Resource Officers Protect the school from the outside
Cytoplasm / Classrooms Fills the inside of the cell, and is the place where most of the reactions and work gets done in the cell.
Mitochondria / Lunch Ladies Create energy for the cell
Vacuole / Lockers and closets Used to store extra materials like water, vitamins,
DNA / Secretaries and Librarians Contains and organizes all of the information needed by the cell
Prokaryotic Cells without a nucleus
Eukaryotic Cells with a nucleus
Unicellular Organisms made up of only one cell
Multicellular Organisms made up of MORE than one cell
Selective permeability Choosing what can enter and leave
